World Shakuhachi Festival 2018 1-4 August in London

It is not only spectacular shakuhachi performances you can enjoy at WSF2018 in London. Also amazing koto and shamisen playing. It is very rare to hear Yamada Ryū pieces performed by 3 top players outside Japan. Yamada Ryū pieces are supposed to be played by 2 koto and 1 shamisen + voice(s) of anyone of the 3 performers + shakuhachi - of course. These amazing top notch Yamada players from left: Watanabe Okahana, Sasaki Chikano and Hagioka Yuko will perform the pieces Matsukaze, Usu no koe, Nasuno and Ōmi Hakkei. Yamada Ryū was founded by Yamada Kengyo (1757 – 1817). One of the major differences between the Yamada and Ikuta styles of koto playing is the plectra which are used; the Yamada ones are triangular with round edges and are thicker than the square shaped Ikuta plectra. Come and enjoy the elegant urban music of Edo!
